Default After ice ponds

Since the rain and the warm weather made some local ponds defrost I went and took a shot. Over the coarse of 3 days I fished maybe a hour and a half and caught 5 bass biggest one going about a pound and a half.

I also have been making the most of the warm spell. I hit the Rahway River Late Sunday afternoon and then a local pond Sunday night around 9 pm. No luck in the river but in the pond I had multiple bites and two good hook-ups that both managed to spit the hook just before I could land them. One of the fish I lost looked and felt pretty big. She jumped and spit the hook about 3 feet from the bank so I got a nice look at what could have been my first "picture-worthy" bass of 2016. All Bites were on a black/blue 3/8 oz jig/black zoom chunk trailer, using a medium retrieve hopping along bottom. It's funny, I forgot to bring my headlamp so I only had my phone as a light and was consequently fishing blind. When I was packing up to leave I found a small flashlight in my bag and shined it around the area where all the strikes occurred. It was super shallow and filled with weeds, leaves and muck. I probably would have never targeted that area if I had been able to see what I was doing. Needless to say I will be going back tonight for that big girl that got away...
