Re: Such an idiot
I worked for a number of years at a north Jersey store in the fishing department, and got to handle a lot of reels both new, and from customers bringing them in for line. Our big lines for reels were Shimano and Daiwa, but with some Quantum and Pfluegers. The mentioned President was a good reel (my opinion) and sold well. It was a similar price point as the Shimano Sedona, but the President had 10 bearings, and lots of guys were moved by that. It was a nice smooth reel though. I like the Presidents when they had the rosewood handle, it added that little touch of elegance.
As for having some little "OOPS" moments, I have a few. With that job, I've spooled more reels than you could count, from the old Quick tiny spinners, to a few giant Penn International trolling reels. I've even respooled some "Barbie-style" spin-casters when the kids were there watching, which was actually a very fun part of the job. Can't tell you how many times I've respooled the old Mitchel reels the wrong way. The rotor turns the other way on those, so they wind differently than Shimano, Daiwa, Abu, Quantum, whatever. Sometimes we'd just get a bag of spools with notes attached saying what line the customer wants on each, which makes for a convenient excuse, but I've also been handed the reel and spooled it backwards. DOH!!!
