maybe if the air was warm and the water was really cold (which i think was the case this day you went fishing) it shocked and killed them? if i remember the few times i use live bait, i try to acclimate them to the water i'll be using them in. that's the only thing i can think of

Did you try pouring your vodka or whiskey or whatever it is that you drink into the bucket to keep the shiners warm? That doesn't work that well with fish. .

I knew it. And here I am thinking that they will tell all other fish about a free liquor that I am giving away and will get bites like crazy. Andre |

for this time of year I get my shiners/fatheads the day before and leave em on a bubbler overnight in the garage. They get shock from the cold especially if the baitshops water is room temp. Some shops have a coil cooler that gets the water in the 50s, but they are few and far between. Best place is Dows on lake hopatcong. Its a 50/50 mix of well water and lake water, bait stays alive for a week or more during ice/cold season

Def died of shock bc of water temps. Slowly add some of the lake water to your bait bucket to get them adjusted. Too much too soon will def kill them.

I've had medium shiners without an aerator in the back of my pick up since Sunday morning. I give em a drop of that fish alive stuff and a tablespoon of Habenero hot sauce. They've been crapping all over my bait bucket since Sunday but hey, they're still alive. LOL!!! In all seriousness, slowly add water from whatever body of water you are fishing. 1 cup, 2 cups! It will help get your bait acclimated to the chilly water there going to get devoured in!
