Default Eye on the RR 9-13/14-14

Hit the river last night from like 10PM - 2/230AM. Threw the kitchen sink and soaked jumbo shiners and gills. No action on the live snacks. Had a few bumps on my go-to plug, but nothing stuck. What was even more frustrating was I could see their eyes every once in a while when i flashed my head lamp down! Just after 2 AM I started getting in the f-it mode and was about to call it a night with the stank o skunk on me. Then I switched plug colors and whammo! Nice lil' drag screamer... fish was about 20" and fought well in the suds. Gotta love the eyes at night! Here's a pic. Sorry for the shake n bake... Sh*t aint easy at night when you're by yourself lol... The eye swam off just fine, though. Till next time--catch em' up!

Well done sir. You put the time in! Did the rain do anything?

Not really, rob. Level was a tad higher and a hint off color but that's it. Some thumps early on but nothing stuck. The eye walloped the plug...had the two front sets of hooks in its lips. There was no shaking off a hook set like that!

Crappy thing is, now I gotta ship a reel to shimano. After that fish, the retrieve was extremely sticky and not smooth. When I flipped the anti reverse and tested it backwards, it was butter. Anyone have any ideas? It's a newer edition Sahara 3000...I'm befuddled bc I've never had a shimano product just crap out on me like that...

The problem could be if the thing got wet at all. If it got submerged try taking it apart and re grease where needed and oil where needed. That's what I'd recommend before sending a reel off when fall fishing is around the corner lol.

Thanks bp. I didn't and haven't dunked the reel. It's only in its 2nd season but has gotten a significant work out since spring started lol... Judging by the grinding feeling and the amount of resistance per revolution, I'm thinking it's something mechanical beyond oil and grease.

I had this happen earlier this season with a shimano symetre reel. Just like you described, never dunked the reel either. I greased and nothing. When I took it apart, a washer on the drag system had frayed and was sticking in the gears. I clipped off the frayed part and it was good to go. Maybe that's the issue?

Tried the reel today. Oddly enough, it worked fine. I dunno what the hell the issue was but things are seemingly all good. Might break her down though and lube it up for the fall...
