Default bass fishing 9/8/14

Super windy and cloudy yesterday knew to throw a spinnerbait and what a good decision. Caught my personal best 6lbs 1 ounce. Caught others on a drop shot and flipping/pitching creature baits. Went to my second spot and the wind pushed all the muck grass in the only good spot. Its tough to punch muck grass with a 7 ft medium heavy rod instead of a stout flipping stick. Managed to catch 3 more with the biggest being 4lbs 6 ounces.

Lures mainly used
3/8 ounce Strike King Spinnerbait
Reaction Innovations Kinky Beaver
Roboworm and Reaction Innovations Flirt on the drop shot

Actually it didn't fight that well because it hit right on the edge of a weed bed along the bank. The fight only lasted a few minutes. I wish it was a longer fight though.

I'd say that's trophy status in NJ, very impressive!

I wish I knew spots that were that good. Well, good in general. I go to the big lakes and that's it cause I know of no where.

My advice is this and it has always worked for me. The key to finding ponds are simply usually when you drive around and you see a pond on private property it never hurts to ask. The worst thing the owner will say is no and you know just to leave. If they allow you, you have to prove to them you are considerate. Always tell them you catch and release the fish. When you do fish there remember its their property never tell people about it or bring a lot of people with you and always remove all your trash and old fishing line. Just always get the phone number and call before you show up. There are some hogs in small ponds. What I like about them is you can build confidence in lures and patterns so when you fish a bigger lake you know what the bass will want. Also offer the property owner something. Offer to help them with a old broken fence you noticed they had or some other trade off you might be able to benefit the,. Its a positive way to say thank you and they will always allow you to fish then.
