Flukin' 2013 Post-mortem: good, bad or indifferent ?

How was your 2013 Flukin' season

Mine was real good - mostly because I was able to get out more often than usual Early season up in Raritan Bay (triangle) was good but ended early when water got too hot, our annual NJFishing/RFA trip there yielded our usual lame results . Mid-season was good around structure - Sandy Hook reef, rattlesnake, etc., I got more 5+ pound fish than usual. Coming "in the money" @ Pt.Pleasant Elks with Team Blind Squirrels was memorable, and I look fwd to us doing even better in 2014. LAte season was a bit disappointing - the usual September rains and wind never really hurt us and I thought we'd see more prolonged action as the Fluke stage for their exodus. Overall I grade it better than usual. What say you ?

Average: Better keeper ratio on Belmar boats than AH boats: Seems the bigger fish don't stick around that Highlands too long.

I thought it was a really good season as well. I was also able to get out more this year than years past which was cool . I haven't managed to catch a 10+ pounder yet, but the majority of the fish I've caught were in the 3 to 5 pound range with a couple between 6 and 7. Caught a ton of shorts, most which were right at the 17.25" mark that will be keepers next year...would somebody wake me up on November 16

I went once caught 40 & had a double limit up to 6lbs, that was enough for me went ling fishing all my other trips

Got more quality this year than in the past but I would say less quantity.
Might be because I bucktailed all year instead of the usual bait dragging.

This was not a good season for me! I fished structure all year and could t get anything over eight pounds! First year I've gone with out a fish over eight in 3 years. Also lacking in quantity of fish! I will say did not need to measure many that went into the box as there were a lot of 4-5 pounders! A fun safe season but limited on days for boat with the weather! I hope next year is better

Average. Had a decent amount in the #3-5 class. Biggest of the year going #7.5 taken in 5' of water in the Manasquan which makes it a memorable catch to me. Did take down a few pools and placed in an equal number. Had hoped for a better late season but it seemed that on the days I went the conditions weren't the most ideal.

Disappointed that the back bay fishery fizzled so early as that it always one of my favorite areas to fluke being that you could use light tackle.

Was pleased to find some new shore spots to fluke from that were very productive. Although my biggest at these spots was about 22"s, I did see enough #4-6ers being caught that I'll definitely fish them again multiple times next season.

I have absolutely no complaints about this year what-so-ever. I personally did pretty good except for my lst 2 trips this year. Switched over from conventional to spinning rod with light tackle this year . Bait worked better the beginning of the year and at the end of the year , I just need to know when to put the bucktails away and switch to dragging bait. Quality was good but the biggens - didnt really show up until late this year , ( past 2 years we have been spoiled with big fish around the whole time) . Biggest fish was 7.2 at the Elks with Team Bling Squiirells .

i fish mostly in cape may, was real slow start, June stunk, July was ok, Aug got good, and Sept was by far the best. Caught more shorts this year than i can ever remember. Move the limit to 17 in less dead fish and more happy anglers
