![]() FYI Toms River - Restrictions of beach access begin
At tonight's Toms River Council meeting, a consent agenda resolution will most likely be approved to restrict four wheel drive vehicles from Ortley, Chadwick, Ocean Beach and all beaches of Toms River township. While many would agree good reason for the "temporary" restriction due to the destruction of Sandy, will this become another "once something is taken away from fishermen will it be returned" senario? M. RESOLUTION of the Township Council of the Township of Toms River, Ocean County, New Jersey, temporarily suspending the issuance of permits for the operation of four-wheel drive vehicles on Township beaches through December 31, 2013 due to damage caused by Superstorm Sandy. ![]() have you seen that area yet? mass destruction is on every block and every corner, people lost their homes, their businesses, and their lives over there, i pass it 25 times a week, i fished the beach for a while and i can honestly say that no one has any reason to be on those beaches...
I will say that your typical 9-5 clean up is not working, i pass by at 530-6pm and everyone is already gone for the day which is sad. I understand everyones frustrations but i live in toms river, and i feel no one should be allowed on the beaches for a while.

![]() Sportfishing, I couldn't agree with you more about nobody having access to the beaches while they're still contaminated with all the debris from the storm. I live on the water in Brick and our area got hit real hard too. The point that I believe Dennis is trying to make is that the people restricting beach access while things are on the mend don't make the beaches off limits to us once everything is back to normal.

I competely understand the concern, i dont think that is going to happen tho, they generate a few bucks during the winter that helps them when no one is buying the over prices beach badges. lol

![]() the entire dune system needs to be rebuilt before the beach is completely replenished...
3rd Ave in Ortley we have a 50' MOUNTAIN of sand Fiore put in there and it needs to be leveled and distributed south on the beach.. Lavallette's beach is in better shape, but there's no dune. They are about half way done with their boardwalk (Ortley ave down to Philly ave) but they are going to have to replenish the dune. Up in the Ocean Beach - Normandy area a lot of work needs to be done, especially on the brick-toms river border where utter destruction took place. I can't see the beach in Ortley being opened south of 6th ave all summer - that entire neighborhood is gone S of the surf club - it's still ugly and demolitions are occuring there daily. Overnight they are lighting up the areas along the beach on 2nd and 3d ave (In ortley) but we've only seen people working there during the daytime. They alos started working on the Lord House (life guard house in Ortley) but it looks like they stopped - pilings are in place but no further progress has taken place. I really hope when things settle and get back to "normal" they allow the buggies on the beach. It sucks having to pay big coin to drive on on island beach!!! |

Something I forgot to mention. This issue gets some interest on this site, while almost no response another site. Cant figure out why? This has much more implications than just 4x4 beach access in Toms River. This is an example of the complexity and severity of, and the eventual loss of our fishing rights!
