What Happened to eight fish at 18 inches and fish from May 7 to Sept. 25. in 2011??? That was nice...

Oh I remember.....we thought it was better in 2012 to have a smaller fish limit and give up some fish...right?

Now we have a 5 fish "choice" actually we don't have any choice in the matter do we?

Things we ponder before clicking the button...

The little ones get killed getting to the big ones?
What is best for the Party Boats?
What is best for the Charters?
Who cares about the Surf and Jetty guys?
What happens to the other species when the season is too short?
Why do the comercial guys get to keep the little ones??(we know the answer)

And on and on.....Tired of it...

Just a little grumpy today!

Leif

Just my suspicious nature, but I believe this would be one step away from a cost wide limit, or at the very least an area limit.

There is no doubt that the Jersey shore will be hurting this year after Sandy and I know we have not made any money since the fluke season closed. I was all for the season opening on May 4th and running till Sept 29th. Now this is not even an option. The 17 1/2 inch size limit last year did nothing for business. The clowns on the fish and game council could care less about the rod and reel anglers or the industry that makes a living from them. This is bull sh** that each year we have to go through this same circus with the same clowns. It is an election year and maybe we should ask the Governor for a longer season.

I am not a doom and gloom person and I take each day as it comes but I have a bad feeling about this fishing season. I think Sandy did more than most think. Ling fishing was way off, few cod and the first time ever NO mackerel. Sea bass and porgies were good off shore so maybe we will have to wait.

Go to the meeting. Thanks captain George

Great observation! A wolf in sheeps clothing if ever there was one. If there is one thing we definitely don't need is an area wide limit. I'll take the NJ regs., no matter how dismal the options may seem and stand on our own, Thank You.

So interesting that the pro 18" fish is represented by the majority of written comments posted on this thread. Of most and more interest is the clear majority and representation in the members approval (as per this poll) for the 17.5" fish. The poll shows twice as many favor the 17.5" fish. As of this result 40 have voted for #3 and the and half as many, only 20, voted for the larger fish. Hmm! While we must appreciate all interest and opinion, majority and Democracy has spoken. Number #3 has it.

That is very true but another thing that the polls show is that about 70% of those polled favor a season that ends no later than 9/22. I hope one of the administrators from this site will go to the NJMFC meeting and make both those points.
