in little park ponds like that, they die in the summer. if the pond happens to get a fall stocking, they might live through the winter but then they die the next summer.

in the summer, they find cold tributaries, seeps from springs and deep pools, but sometimes, especially in drought years it still gets too warm and they die. in the winter they live just fine.
