Random questions about trout

Why are rainbow trout also called steelhead.

Lets say nj stocks trout in lake manalapan. Do any survive the summer and winter? If so, shouldn't someone every once and a while be catching them in the off season?

Where do the trout go in the summer and winter after there put in the north branch of the raritan? It's shallow there in the summer, how could they survive?

steelhead are migratory rainbow trout... into the ocean and back to the river or sometimes into lakes and back. their color changes to more silvery, hence the "steelhead"

in little park ponds like that, they die in the summer. if the pond happens to get a fall stocking, they might live through the winter but then they die the next summer.

in the summer, they find cold tributaries, seeps from springs and deep pools, but sometimes, especially in drought years it still gets too warm and they die. in the winter they live just fine.

I give trout a lot more credit than most when it comes to survival. Way up on the North Branch are plunge pools where they summer over.
