I guess it makes sense.. Guy keeps 25,brings home 10 or so- sells 15 at $2.50 a pound, and it pays for a little bit of his trip.. Not worth the risk IMHO.. 15 fish of that size is not a bad limit at all... There will always be "pin hookers" I guess.. I thought that was dying off in the modern age. I am sorry to hear it has not.. It makes the vessel, and also the captain and mates on these fine boats look bad when one of these "sportsmen" gets nailed at the dock. They don't deserve that. It goes into the paper, on the internet etc. They get a black eye through NO fault of their own because a few greedy idiots feel they can disregard legal bag limits.. With 40- 50 guys slinging fish up by 2's and 3's all around the boat all day, they can only do so much... Not enough eyes.. However, they should not need that many eyes... A little bit of self restraint and sense of fair play would go a long way.... bob |
Re: Cbass limits bust!!
Its a shame, part of the problem is some people just are lazy too. guys probly didnt have a clue how many they had in the cooler and just thought ah the hell with it and didnt even bother to take the time and count. Myself and madman fished the gambler on a trip this year and we dumped our cooler twice just to double check :)

If you ask me, you did nothing wrong, even though you kept more than your limit. Maybe the people that got busted on the DM intended on eventually giving them away and only keeping 30 fillets for themselves. I wouldn't call you a pirate. Maybe a "freedom fighter" or a "protestor".;) |

Re: Cbass limits bust!!
The only problem with the sea bass fishery right now is too many large fish and not enough small ones. Size limit needs to be lowered, then the fish will switch from females to male sooner and the population will expand more rapidly. In the late 90s and early 2000s, fish switched to male at 8-9" and there were tons of fish, now with larger size limits, the switch is often over 13." All summer you could catch over 50 fish a day, though many were tiny. Now it is hard to catch very many sea bass outside of the peak seasons and there seems to be relatively few small fish. Sea bass are one of he few fish that benefit from fishing pressure.
