Hey John, check it out. The rod and reel guys aren't doing the damage it's the fish pots, trawlers and roller gear.

They are worth something alive in China town not dead. Sea Bass will get you $2.50 a pound dead.

So even if you walked off the boat with 30 sea bass at a 3lb average, thats only 90lbs.

So this guy gets $225... You might want to rethink that position.

If they were alive then you could get $8-$10 a pound... Good Luck with keeping them alive...

I vented my fish on my last trip once i had my limit and i watched 99% of them swim back to down. I limited out in 45 mins.. then played catch and release along with helping some others out that were sick.. I picked up a few short of a limit of porgys as well.. It was a great trip..

Agree 1000% !!!

I was on the boat a week or so ago and there were at least 2 announcements over the intercom during the day reminding fares of what the bag limits are for biscuits. I think a captain and crew can only do so much and that in the end it is up to the individual to demonstrate discipline and adherence to the rules. JMHO

proove it. i know for a fact that however, that we are taking thousands of fish per boat per day. thats gotta do something. We can point fingers all we want but sooner or later where gonna have to face the facts or there will be no fish left.

Yeah 6-7 party boats in tri state area that do these kind of fishing maybe 3-4 times a week for 2 month. I am sure that will do whole lot of damage

There are always going to be guys on any boat that feel they are entitled to take more than they are supposed to. Unfortunately this is human nature. We see it in all aspects of life. Someone sets a limit, makes a law, or ethics ect. There are always going to be pigs that don't have the control to stop when they're full. I believe if you can stuff a 94qt cooler, that's a good day. As for the Voyager or Gambler, I was on one of those boats not too long ago and saw this exact thing going on despite the captains warnings.

The sea bass stock reached fully rebuilt status while there was a 25 fish limit. There was no reason to lower it. And if you think 15 is too many, let's see what happens if they lower it to 10 or 5- how many party boats are going to make a 50-70 mile trip for that? and how many people are going to spend that kind of money for a couple fish. Take a 5 hour or more boat ride to get to fish for 20 minutes while you get your limit of 5 or 10 fish.

We rod and reel fisherman didn't do anything to the cod, mack and ling fishery. Go mackeral fishing when they are around and watch the big processor boat out there- that's what is doing the damage, not a guy with a five teaser rig on a party boat.

It does happen there. It happens everywhere. There were reports earlier this year on this site where a guy fished on the Voyager and "caught 38 sea bass" however, he was smart enough to put that famous quote "keeping only my legal limit" in his post. Maybe he did only keep 15 and threw the rest back, most of which probably died regardless of whether they were vented or not. If you are truly following the limit, put the rod away once you hit 15.

Does not happen on the boat i work.. ill tell you that.. But yes i have seen it on a lot of boats And I enjoy calling them out on it... The boat/crew/capt is not the issue its the pirates that are fishing on it..
