![]() Hey guys. I have a kayak that I would like to keep in a certain spot in the woods. Does anyone recommend a way to safely chain it to a tree or what type of lock to buy?

![]() A bike cable lock that can fit at least one end through a scupper hole would allow you to chain it to a tree. If they really want to steal it they will. A camo colored yak might be a good idea.

![]() .
Anybody who has ever attempted to lock up a tree stand or trail cam on public property can tell you someone will eventually hack away at your chain until they get what they want. Battery operated saws make stuff a lot easier to steal. If the kayak has scupper holes, I'd go with the biggest chain you can fit through the holes and padlock it. They make specialty bicycle chains for this, but they can be quite expensive. If you don't have scupper holes, I'm not sure how you would secure it. .

![]() Gorrilla makes a very large diameter locking cable to lock up tree stands. That's what I use through the scupper hole and around my rack. Why do you hate your kayak? Bring it inside and show her some love. |

![]() Is it too far to use a kayak caddy? U could use tow chain thru a scupper might be harder to cut than a cable

![]() I've cabled yaks through the scupper holes several times on river trips when we have to to drive back to get the truck with the rack. Get a big cable like this.
