Are Bass Confused?
This Bass season has been quite interesting due to strange weather
1. First two weeks of April: Football jigs and senko were not working but size 18 nymph was doing the magic on crappies, LM and SM. 2. Last two weeks of April: LM Bass were doing the "mating dance" of pairing and some males were preparing beds. SM and Crappies were aggressive. 3. First two weeks of May: LM retreated to deep water due to cold front. 4. Last week Due to strange weather pattern, bass doesn't know whether to spawn or NOT. See a lot of beds but they were empty. I don't think this is post spawn as I didn't see any fry. Maybe it's I who is confused. P.S. Thanks Jigman for pointing out. Healthy diet I am on makes me think of Fries. Re: Are Bass Confused?
WOW, If I were to make a post it would be exactly what you posted, that's exactly what I have seen from April, exactly. Seems like every time i go out, I have to find them because there not where they were a couple days before. I would say that the spawn did not happen yet, see lot's and lot's of beds with no fish on them, just on the smallie beds (like a week or so ago) I hit Squan. a couple times a week, so I always have a good idea what's going on. A week ago I actually saw a LM making a bed, with that said, I believe with the warm weather this week, I think you will see them on the bed's. I may be wrong, but I think the spawn is about to happen.

Re: Are Bass Confused?
I'm a couplea-few hours north of you, but I have seen similar activity. The past two weeks though have seen the spawn start up here though. First it was the smaller golf course ponds that warm faster, with females on beds all over the place. Then some deeper reservoirs followed a week behind that. The females are still bedding as of yesterday up here.
But the weird weather definitely seems to have a lot of fish confused. |

Re: Are Bass Confused?
On Sunday I saw them on the beds all over the place. Looked like the same exact fish in different parts of the lake (12-14 inch largemouth). Didn't want anything I threw at them. Managed one on a crankbait as soon as it hit the water it got nailed. Reactionary hit. Didn't see any smallies and no pickerel popped outta the weeds to even look at my offering. It was a slow day. Seeing that many largemouth though was promising. It should start lighting up real soon

Re: Are Bass Confused?
I don't normally bother bedding bass.
However, if I am at the risk of skunking that day as the desperation sets in, I throw a floating tricky worm with a 3/0 wide gap and it usually works (as long as the bass doesn't see me). Tricky Worm is NOT senko. |

Re: Are Bass Confused?
Geeze, when I saw the title of this thread I though it was gonna be a repeat of the 'hormones in the water-trans gender bass' discussion from some time back, especially in light of Obama's recent school bathroom debacle.

Re: Are Bass Confused?
Two weeks ago I saw a number of bass on their beds right below my feet against the dam bulkheads. Sunday they were gone. Perhaps the spawning is done in some spots.
