Sat Striper and Tog trip
Me and my buddy Roy got out on his boat out of the Highlands early this morning for some jigging action. Found the birds along with some nice splashes. Only problem was that the fish were moving fast. Popping up for just a couple of second then somewhere else. Roy got a short on a sandeel imitation and I couldn't buy hit on a black tailed Ava 47. Drift was quick too also.
We watched some of the trollers doing good and figured that was the thing to do. Trolled an umbrella rig and a plug on braid (not wire) and first knockdown was on the umbrella and was a double of stripers. One was 34.5" and the other a short. Nice! The fleet was huge at this point but we managed another keeper, 2 shorts and lost a keeper boat side. Trollers definitely had the edge from what it seemed. Trolled away from the fleet without any action so we picked up to go toggin on the reef. Another huge fleet down there also. Had slow action where we anchored with alot of adjustments. I got a tog a little over 17" and Roy had a short. Otherwise it was just a scratch here and there. |
