Weekend birthday lake report...

So bday was on friday - took the day and headed up the lake....

Had favorable conditions so what would be better than drifting live baits during the day...

Went out at noon - wasnt interested in artificals until the evening bite....

Dad Myself and my seven yr old... great bday present and we were rewarded.

Mind you - I fish live baits with six pd line - small spilt shot, small hooks - crappies and whatever else I target... light tackle....

I fish this piece that is a great and on any given day - there can be 100 crappies, bass, pickeral, perch, occasional hybrid ... I pretty much know what I am in for.. lots of tied hooks, lost baits and netting... I rarely fish it becuase I am drifting and need to be precise on the drift...lot of trolling motor work.

Well let me tell you, got a good birthday gift from the fishing gods, becuase it seemed the hybrids cleaned out the other fish and put the feedbags on.

All in the four to 6 pd range (a with a 1.5knot drift) and light tackle, the fights were immense...Fish were hungry, angry and put up great fights on light tackle.

We ended up with 6 in two hours and had 4 others on - that broke off and two that broke off on the first run..

Was a great time... and had us raring for the weekend. Then the weather came and went and shut down the fishing... All small bass this weekend, another hybrid and some pickeral and crappies..

Highlight bass of the weekend was fishing the pads with big willow spinner baits and this four pder crushed the spinnerbait, multiple jumps and great fight.

Nice way to spend the birthday... also had a big bear in the backyard, thing was a pig. Sorry no pics... all released..
