Default Pompton/Passaic 8/12

Got out in a new area of the Pompton River this afternoon from the kayak. Tossed a new firetiger patterned spinnerbait all day that I grabbed at Dick's recently. Fishing by a small dam, I had a follow and swipe from a small Pike, but no hookup. Kept paddling and pulled this healthy Largemouth off a laydown. Had a few more smaller fish mixed in before I decided to pack it up and head to another one of my spots downstream on the Passaic. Only got to fish for maybe 45 minutes here, but managed this Pike and another Largemouth that I didn't bother photographing. This guy hit within sight distance of the kayak, maybe 4ft away at most.

As many of you guys know, Pike do not enjoy being on the end of a hook, inside a net, inside a boat/kayak, to being photographed, etc.. This guy was no exception, which is expected, but what wasn't expected was the boatload of drunk douchebags and their buddy on a WAVERUNNER flying passed me with the fish at the boat....not bothering to slow down to control their wake for me. Here's my rant: please have respect for other boaters out there, whether they're yakking or in another boat. Besides blowing up the other guys spot, wake in a kayak with a pissed off Pike in your net is not something anyone enjoys. Last picture is off me trying to control the kayak and Pike after the Coors, Busch and Yuengling brothers flew passed me . Got off the water by 6pm as the fish started waking up.

Thanks guys! Been catching a lot in the 20"-30" range, hoping the cooler weather in the next few months brings the big boys out. Still waiting for my 40"+

I have a GoPro mounted next to my fishfinder. Has a 10 second timer option that I use to snap hands free pictures. A lot easier than trying to do the cellphone picture thing lol.

The rains from Friday brought the river up a bit, but its dropping back down and still very low and rocky in spots. If you go on a sunny day and can scope out the bottom or have a spotter in the front of the boat keeping an eye out, you should be good. Close to the actual bridges at Two Bridges Road is probably somewhere you should avoid with the boat though, as it gets VERY shallow for about 1/8th mile.

Hey rob I was on the river saturday in the little falls/wayne area and I saw a waverunner and boat on the river too. Our 8 ft boat was bouncing up and down from the wakes. Def spooked the fish too. It has to be the same people. Nonsense

Nice catches!! I've actually been scouting the pompton some recently. Found some good spots, and a few not so good. Unfortunately map apps don't give you water depth.

I actually heard them hit some rocks but that didn't stop them from hauling ass through there either lol.
