Default Fished the Big D

Did a float trip on the 17th up in Narrowsburg NY to 10 mMile River for Shad ,Smallies and trout. Got there the day before to fish the Narrowsburg Pool that evening. We managed 4 Shad in the hour we were there. 2 on fly rod and 2 on spinning with green darts. On the float trip we managed just another 5 along with some smallies and a beautifu 20" brown trout on a Rapala. All fish were in great shape and released. Shad run is said to be very good this year, just a slow day for us.

Default Re: Fished the Big D

Fishing in the Raritan several rears ago I hooked a shad while fishing a bead-head nymph fishing for trout in May - thought I had the biggest trout in the river. After ~ 15 minutes I landed a 5lb. shad about 200 yards downstream. Tied up about a dozen shad flies (look like darts with beads or weighted eyes) and caught several more the next week-end. Unbelievable - they fight like steelhead. Nothing like them on a fly-rod!
