Default Nor’easter inlet blues

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet on the north jetty this evening a day after the full moon 🌕 during a nor’easter with a small craft advisory, flood watch, rip current warning and incoming tide. Caught, tagged and released 2 19” bluefish on bucktail teasers and lost a fluke. Saw 3 blues, 2 blackfish, a fluke and a striped bass caught nearby. An osprey caught a fish 🐟 in the surf. A double crested cormorant caught fish 🐠 in the inlet. Minnows swam up the inlet on the surface. A few surfers 🏄 were in the pocket late in the day. Took lots of pics.

When recapturing a tagged fish what do you do? Cut it off? Leave it in? Document numbers on it? Record fish length and weight? Never caught a tagged fish. Wouldn't know what to do if I did.

If you catch a striped bass with a Hudson River Foundation belly tag, mail it to the address on the tag with your information and you get entered into the end of year lottery where you can win $1,000, $500, $250 or $100. I met a fisherman at Island Beach State Park who won $250. For all other tagged fish 🐟 if the tag is readable, record the data, then release the fish 🐠 with the tag intact so that the tagged fish can be recaptured again. If the tag is not readable, cut it off and mail it in so that the tag can be acid etched to get the information. Report length, weight, date caught and where caught. American Littoral Society tags can be reported online at http://littoralsociety.org. 3 of the 34 fish 🐠 that I tagged this year were recaptured. I met a lot of fishermen who didn’t report the tagged fish that they caught for various reasons. Please report tagged fish. It’s very important.
