Raritan river float 6/23/13:
Floated from Roberts St. to the 2nd 287 crossing today. Got on the water around 6am and got off at 1pm. I snagged a big sucker at Roberts St and got a nice smallmouth above Manville, 2 fish all day. I threw jigs, a 4" Rapala, large saltwater Bombers, and live crayfish. Hit the Manville hole hard with live crayfish and found no love. Saw a total of 4 people fishing the river today, 2 when I launched and 2 at the falls. Also saw a big snake on a rock, a beaver, a bald eagle, many cormorants, and assorted turtles and frogs, saw no dead fish. Water was off and a bit high, 71* when I put in 74* when I took out.
Not going on my rant about stocking today. Had a great float, very relaxing and good exercise. Penns Creek water out by State College : 6/19/2013 Over the past couple of weeks the creek hit 74 degrees 2 times. Tonight I got 71 degrees so with this cool weather we should get another week on the lower water, then we will have another week in the middle and upper sections. The 2nd 287 crossing is close to home. Call da wife and she gets me. Go back to the house, chill, unload, then the drive over to Raritan. All in a days work.
