Fall Catskill trout recommendations
Hey all!
I always got great advice from the freshwater community. TLDR: I got the itch to go hit some rivers and streams in the Catskills, ideally would love to target trout! Over the summer I spent a weekend in Narrowsburg, NY and had a great time catching smallies but not great trout fishing. I plan on getting an airbnb rental with my gf under the guise of a couples get away, but in reality I want to just catch some big river trout Any general areas that are good for trout fishing and have some sort of good food or in-town area near buy would be highly appreciate!!! I’d do this trip in the next 2-3 weeks |

Re: Fall Catskill trout recommendations
Here's my recommendation, I'm sure there will be others. Stay at Smith's Colonial motel in Hancock NY, (not so romantic) BUT it puts you almost smack dab in the middle of all the rivers.
You can get up in the morning and take a short drive to the Roscoe diner for breakfast and work your way down the Beaverkill to the East and West branch. OR you can head off to fish the West branch and work your way down to the main stem. I actually like fishing the main stem as much as I do the other branches. Use the search feature on here and type in Upper Delaware river. I like Hankins and Callicoon on the main stem !!! In 2 to 3 weeks most rivers will have a thick mat of leaves on them, take that into consideration also. How about doing a float trip ??? https://www.smithscolonialmotel.com/ |

Re: Fall Catskill trout recommendations
I'll 2nd a float trip... Great way to cover some water. If conditions are right you can float the Beaverkill but if it's too warm or shallow the East and West Branch of the Delaware... The Delaware is known for it's Brown trout so if looking for bigger fish, that's where I'd focus.
As Andy mentioned, staying somewhere just north of Roscoe will put you right in the middle of the thick of it. Let's hope your guise of a "couples retreat" stands the test of time. Avoiding places like the Roscoe Diner and springing for a nice place like the Riverside Cafe or a SPA treatment for her might help too. Good luck lover boy

Float trip for the win. A lot of water to cover with Multispecies available. Those Trout fight very hard on the East and West branch. I like the stretch from Balls Eddy and south personally.
