No ice here and I'm almost 3 hours north of sussex county... Even tiny half acre farm ponds have no ice or just a tiny skim around the edges... The big lakes?.. none at all...

I was just out and came back.. Small farm ponds starting to freeze up, it has cooled down past 2 days, but the lakes in NY are BIG, and it might take a while.. Makes no difference to me, I don't ice fish at all.. Seen too many horrible things, and was involved in one myself at age 12 or so,,, Not my bag...

Budd Lake is usually the first lake with safe ice.

February is the new january. The long range temp forecasts look really good for making ice.

Thumbs up Re: Ice dance starting...

All in like the uni-bomber. If there is ice I’ll be on it. Playing with the ice gear now and doing a check of what needs a tune up.

Not to worry..........scientists from a major New Jersey institution of higher learning are working on a way to get all of you hard water anglers a chance to drill some holes on your favorite ponds much earlier in the year. It won't matter how cold or warm the nights are to get the water to firm up. They are experimenting with a substance which, when added to the water, will end any ice dancing forever. What is it you ask? They are adding little blue pills to some selected lakes and ponds to get things firmed up. It promises to get the waterways harder and thicker than by just waiting for things to happen normally.
