Default Is there a 12 step program for Fishing?

Right around Christmas eve my wife sent me to Wallyworld (AKA Walmart) to pick up wrapping paper, tape and the like for the presents. Like any good husband I was happy to get out of the house and off I went. Upon arriving, I went directly to the fishing isle and promptly picked up two crankbaits, some swimbaits, hooks, jigs, and few other odds and ends. All of which I have plenty of already (of course you can never have too much). Happy with my new purchase, off I went home. I completely forgot to pick up the wrapping paper stuff! Of course, I told her they were all out of wrapping paper!!

Now just the other day she sent me to BJ's to pick up the usual groceries. The Southbranch just happens to be a mile or so away from BJ's. Being one that always keeps a rod in the truck, I stopped by for some winter trout. An hour into my fishing, I got a text from her asking if I hadn't left BJ's yet, could I pick up a few more items. Of course, I said, "just for you I'll go back and get it".

I started to think, does anyone else do this? Or do I need some type of program. Frankly I don't think I would do well in FA (Fisherman's Anonymous).

Does anyone else do this? I think I know the answer!!

LMAO... That made my day right there. YES, I def. have a problem for sure, there has not been a week to pass since spring where I haven't spent money for fishing stuff at Walmart, Dicks, Tackle warehouse, and I'm not kidding. I go to 2 different Dick's, and I probably have each isle memorized to what's in them, but yet, I still spend a hour in the fishing section EVERY time I go there. My kids wont even go with me anymore, they said Dad spend way to much time there, and we get bored...LOL So, NO, your not alone on this one buddy. But hey, the way I see it, I don't drink, do drugs etc., and fishing is what i enjoy the most in life, and doing with my family is even better.

Sounds like you'd be better served by going to Husbands Anonymous!

Haha. I know I've been known to tell a little fib here and there to the women about what I'm doing, when I'll be home, or where I'm headed. I don't give her enough credit tho cause she usually figures it out and knows if she tells me to be home by a certain time to automatically add a hour or two.

.

Some signs you're addicted to fishing:

-All your selfies have fish in them.

-The local tackle shop knows you by name.

-Every lens you own is polarized.

-You’re asked, “Why do you have so many fishing poles?”

-You mow your lawn at night so you have more daylight for fishing.

-Opening day means fishing, not baseball.

-While grocery shopping at Wal-Mart you walk out with fishing gear instead.

-You’ve brought your boat to work, to fish after work or you bring your kayak to work and it stays in your truck, so you’re always prepared.

-One more cast means one more cast in every direction, so, 10 or more casts.

-You squeeze in fishing before work and/or on lunch break.

A guy pulls up to a trout stream, parks and gets his gear together. He heads down to the pool above the bridge and seeing an older gent on one side he heads to the opposite side of the stream.

After the two have been quietly fishing for a half hour or so a funeral procession comes rolling down the country road. As it passes over the bridge the old gent removes his hat and holds it to his breast until the procession has passed, then resumes fishing.

Impressed by this apparently random act of respect the other fellow says, "By God sir that was one of the most respectful and honorable gestures I've witnessed in a long time!"

The older gent replies, "Well, I figure it's the least I could do considering next Tuesday would'a been our 50th anniversary."

Footnote; my wife once said if I go fishing once more she's gonna leave me. Ya know, sometimes I really miss that gal!
