Default Way back Steelhead

When run really got going in NY mid 70’s , I could on a average day take 10+ on a hot day could get 20 !
Couple average size !

I fished there to about 96 regularly then New Years flood changed river ! Little tougher then , many more fishermen , Then went back couple more times too
Many fishermen ! Fishing never compared after flood !

Do you remember the mid to late seventies, when with the Mirex pollution they gave you, I think it was 2 tags to limit consumption. The good old days.

I believe that was for Salmon , I never bothered to Salmon fish since early on it was snagging fest ! Once that was over I started after the steelies !
Early on I kept limits but didn’t care for them after cooking
I then gave to a friend on occasion who smoked them !
Mostly catch n release after that !
Previously I had sought steelhead once they started to come back after the lamprey deal at Owen Sound and Michigan fisheries !
However for amounts of fish with hardly any anglers around NY stood out ! Had a dozen good years then the flood changed the areas I fished !

It’s changed a lot last couple years again... the whole upper end of the river is nuts! Gotta start from scratch again and relearn all that water
