Learned Something New
So, learned something new yesterday while reading the NJ Freshwater Fishing Digest. Green Sunfish are invasive (native to midwest) and it is required that anglers destroy them, and or submit specimens and/or photos to state fisheries bureau.
Other fish on the list, flatheads, bighead carp, grass carp, and silver snakehead, to name a few. No surprises there. |

Re: Learned Something New
I actually did a research paper in college about invasive fish species, and learned that the green sunfish can take over 1st and 2nd order streams (read:headwaters) because they are so aggressive and can eat larger forage than the native fish (and the native fish themselves). In larger rivers, though, they are just another menu item for the predators.
