Default Blackfish rod

Curious as to what you guys would recommend for a good blackfish rod. I'm looking for a rod that is 7 feet that has a very strong tip and will handle bigger blackfish well. Last fall was my first time blackfishing and the rod I used was way too weak. It did surprisingly well but I know if anything big came on there was nothing I could do(biggest fish was 6 lbs). It will be matched with a Tekota 500 and my budget is up to $150.

You want something in the line class 20-40 and one that loads up rather fast. For under 150, your best bet would go see Mr. Bogan in Pt. You can get a custom fish poison for 145.

Jigging World has some sweet rods as well, very light but strong... 1st class service as well, and I too swear by Bogans as well, decisions....

Bogans and jigging world. May need to spend a few more bucks though. Look at the black demon at jigging world. It's sweet.

Personally, I switched over to the Shimano Terez 8 foot Medium-Heavy. I've tried a lot of other rods and that extra foot on the rod makes it easier to keep that crab still on the bottom. The rod is very powerful, yet sensitive enough to feel the bite. Shelf price is $260.00 but it was worth every penny for me.

Definitely go with 8 foot. Not only does it help keep the bait still in seas, but you have more leverage and it helps when you hook a big fish to keep him off the bottom. When you hook a big fish, the first few seconds are most important to keep the fish out of the structure. The 8 foot will really help. Also, you might want to consider something without a very heavy tip for when you have a scratchy bite.

Yes Yong's JW rods are great too, I own two, lol. But at his price point, they are both above that at 200-250, along with the terez.

Bogan's fish poison - nice rods - reasonably priced.
