Last cast 12 lber
Went carping in 59 degree Carnegie Lake this evening in the cold rain. Air temp was only 53 degrees. I could see my breath when I exhaled. Threw out a can of whole kernel corn 🌽 for chum, then caught and released a pumpkinseed sunfish with corn bait on 4 lb test line. Landed and released a 13” gravid female brown bullhead next. Then a big fish swam into the candocks to my left, broke my 4 lb test line and stole my three hooks. I stopped using my 4 lb test outfit after that. When I lost my jig to a snag, I stopped fishing with my 2 lb test outfit. On my last cast of the day with my homemade corn meal bait on a #8 red treble hook on the end of my 12 lb test line, I landed a 12 lb common carp. I applied maximum pressure at all times and managed to pull it out of the candocks several times. If my line broke I would have fallen over backwards. The fish 🎣 was only lightly hooked with one of the trebles. I was very fortunate that the hook didn’t pull out. Landed 4 carp in my Carnegie Lake flood spot this week. Found a Canada goose egg 🥚 on the bottom of the lake.
