Would you be referring to the hard working small time commercial fisherman or those evil east coast corporate trawlers that you made up.... I mean referred to in prior post?
If the stocks are declared 102% of the rebuilding target and over fishining is not occurring how are commercial fisherman having a negative effect on the stocks?
How about this..... The stocks are healthy , matter a fact they are about the healthiest they have been in most of our life times. The angler success rate is so good due to the abundance of fish that quotas are achieved or exceeds with the current size , season and bag limits. Now to change the current status of the seabass fishery thier are a number of options. Some can be supported by facts others by opinions , but they could help all anglers have access to this healthy fishing. This is a partial list.... Declare the biomass at twice it's current size, declare angler participation at half it's current levels, challenge MFSS and angler success rates, double quotas and challenge they will not have a negitive impact on the stocks .... These are just a few options to help anglers regain year round access. The bottom line is pointing fingers at another angling group fishing under a quota is about as wrong as one could be. But then again trueth and the Internet

do not have much in common. Bonjour as I am a French Model.

Do you think, I really give two sh*ts what you think? You must be confusing me with someone who gives a sh*t. Like I stated, I kept my 15 keepers and helped the unfortunate who were sick through the trip. I guess, I was wrong, for helping those people. Going forward, I'll just think about myself and hell with the others.

What you did with the 23 fish you kept over your limit is a different story and it's your business. Maybe it was a noble thing that you gave a bunch away. If I was one of the seasick recipients, I would have greatly appreciated it, I'm sure.

If you ask me, you did nothing wrong, even though you kept more than your limit. Maybe the people that got busted on the DM intended on eventually giving them away and only keeping 30 fillets for themselves.

I wouldn't call you a pirate. Maybe a "freedom fighter" or a "protestor".
This will be the last time. I kept my 15 keepers. The other 23 went to those unfortunate who were sick. Do you really think the Voyager would of fillet all of the 38 fish in my cooler? NO! I wouldn't jeopardize me getting banned from the Voyager. Just was trying to help others, I guess I'm a poucher now for helping others.

Who actually fishes for cheap food? Maybe the guys on a dock.

Play catch and release and pretend that those fish you just pulled out of 200 ft of water all live when you toss them back? Sit in the cabin for the next 5 hours? Or do you keep pulling and fill the cooler hoping the fish cops don't meet you at the dock?

Lots of people choose the last option. When you know the regulation in place is absurd and based on nothing, I don't blame them. After all, when you post your report you can still put "keeping only my legal limit" as if that statement means something..... If the sea bass stock was truly in trouble, that's a completely different story.

So on a 6 pack charter if the captain and mate allow you to keep their fish does that make you a poacher or a pirate? I'd love to hear from SaltLife on this one too.

Jay , you didn't retain more than your limit . You released them back into someone else's cooler .That's different than someone selling their overlimit . I always appriciate a few fillets to take home after a hard day working deck .

This is the first year where they are reducing the allowable catch of bunker, too little, too late. We must also share the blame for overfishing some areas. You read the reports of boats fishing for cod, bumper to bumper, day in, day out. That has to have some effect as well.
You do realize NJ shares their catch with other states thats why your Sea bass season ended early right? Mass went way over the allocated limit and that shut you down as you were nowhere nearing yours.

That's why you didn't have a Nov. 1 to Dec. 31 sea bass season.

NJ Fish and Game-

(as of 10/2012)
May. 19 - Sept. 3
Sept. 23 - Oct. 14
Will not be reopening in November - Closed for 2012

I know of maybe 6 boats that go offshore for sea bass when it is open and those six boats would have to bang on those stocks everyday for a year in order to even make a ding in the stocks. ( Mind you they went offshore only about half the time maybe a little more because of weather and they never went for 2 years prior) Please explain how this will hurt our stock again.

From NOAA for black sea bass-

Fishing Rate

Sustainable (no overfishing) in the Mid-Atlantic.

If the reason for the 15 fish was a lower biomass show me the math, where ?

There was no reason to go to 15 fish and 2 months. It will keep going mark my words. Maybe next year it will be 10 fish and one month season, they are slowly chipping away, in 10 years you can take up golf.

Show me how much meat you get off a 14" sea bass, pleeeeeeze.
May not like the regs, I sure dont agree with them but still play fair. No one forcing me into a bunk to steam 6 hours for 15 fish, I chose to do it.

Exactly, thank you for understanding. The mates and the sick passengers were very grateful for those who did contribute to the cause.

That wasn't my point. It has nothing to do with cheap food. I gave almost everything I caught away anyway. My point was that if you can catch your limit in a half hour or hour, and then you have to stop fishing, it's not really worth it. I went all the time because I loved the fishing part of it. It's a lot of effort and expense for that amount of fishing. But I'm sure there are some who look at it not enough bang for their buck.
