Average year for the Rippen Lip. Fished out of the Highland all year. Our keeper ratio was about 10-1 with about 5 fish this year over 6lbs and 1 over 8lbs. Most fish were around 19-21". Largest fish of the year was taken on the last day of the season, 28" 9lbs 8oz. 3-fish at 24, 24, and 25" taken the first month of the season. Best days were in the Ambrose as far as quantity and quality combined. Only 1 fish at 25" was landed in the Ambrose, all other 24" and over were landed in less then 25' of water depth, within 1/4 mile of land. only made 1 trip to the mud buoy late in the season and didn't catch any there. I know many were caught there, by others, on other days. Only had a boat limit once this year.

Made 1 trip to the Barnegat Inlet north jetty and didn't get a hit with 110 casts of a Hopkin's rig. Made 1 trip to the Manasquan Inlet north jetty and caught, tagged and releaed a 13" fluke on my second of 100 casts with the Hopkin's rig. 1 fluke in 210 casts is the worst season ever.

very average. We got our share. It was a tough weather year for the weekend warrior, and most trips were spent trying to manage conditions rather than fishing where we wanted to be.
I really missed fishing the first week of May.
For our group, that is our favorite time of year to fish the weather protected estuaries without the eminent post Memorial Day weekend boat traffic. I would rather see the minimum size limit go back to 18" than have 3 weeks chopped off the front of the season again. This year was like celebrating Christmas Day on Valentines Day for us.
