I would hope everyone would respect that and not name the boat, instead say Non Sponsor.

Ok, so let me get this straight. If i own a boat and am a member of this site, have a great day fishing, and want to talk about it i can not do that because i do not pay you a monthly fee to have the right to do so? So i would be a non sponcer boat yes??????
Just trying to figure it out.

Maybe we need another category for "The same Questions" every year.....It's getting old.......Who's the best? We all are in one way or another. Then again, it depends on who you talk to.

June, if I could post here for free, I'd do so, but that's not good business for Gerry. I pay a fee so I can promote my business, why would I be happy with every Tom,Dick and Harry talking about Billy Bumfarts Sea Queen fishing boat, when Billy Bumfart is too tight to pay up? Doesn't make sense now does it?......PS: Your fired!!

Seazu,

I'll respond since it was my post which caused your confusion. I'm not a site sponsor either but thought I would make a point in an effort to avoid an issue with my earlier post and certainly didn't mean to create one.

If you're a registered person on the site who doesn't operate a fishing business, by all means post your catch results. You're posting a report to share information and obviously there's a degree of bragging rights involved but most are for general information.

It's completely different if you charter or own a party boat. These fine folks work their tails off in a highly competitive business and become site sponsors to promote their businesses. They post their reports not only to share information but in support of their livelihood. They pay sponsor fees so Gerry can afford a site like NJF that we all benefit from. I'm sure as much as Mr. Z loves fishing, he's not doing all this for his love of the sport. No offense intended Gerry. It's a business that involves a tremendous amount of effort on his part, I'm sure a significant investment of both time and capital and continued investment to sustain the growth of the site. To afford that, NJF needs sponsors and sponsor fees.

If the site allowed non-sponsors to post reports or someone like me to post a report about a non sponsor and intentionally or unintentionally promote their operation, we're all doing site sponsors a huge injustice because they have to pay for that same benefit. It's that easy. If someone who has a business interest wants to market their business through NJF, they have to pay for the right to do so which will keep parity among all sponsors.

The reason I made my initial post was because I suspected non sponsors would be brought into it and I'm not sure it's fair to evaluate sponsors on a relative basis. If Gerry or the sponsors elected to do that on Gerry's web site, that's his or their decision. I don't think that's a decision that a non sponsor member should make himself since it could easily be construed that any sponsor's name not mentioned might actually offer an inferior service. If I paid a fee to NJF to be a site sponsor, I wouldn't be happy if that were the outcome. As Capt. Ron said, everyone has different likes and different interests so it's a tough question in and of itself being asked and at the same time I don't think it's appropriate or the right of members to rank sponsors against one another which in a round about way is what is being asked. They all work hard to carve a living out of the ocean and it would be unfortunate if a simple question actually ended up hurting anyone's business.

That being said, I know it wasn't the intention of the person who started the thread to do that, he was looking for some information to assist I guess a business venture of his own. BUT in my humble opinion, if that simple request for the reason stated above in any way hurt sponsor's perceived reputations, I don't think the question should have been asked or at minimum it should have been run by Gerry first for his thoughts and authorization.

I hope that sheds some light on my initial post, the reasons behind it and the difference between posts by the general public versus sponsor or non sponsor charter and party boat owner / operators.

Dakota

Private boats can and do share their reports here and are encouraged to do so. We do not allow charter or party boats that are not sponsors here to post their reports since it would not be fair to the sponsors who pay for that same privilege. As far as people who fish with non sponsors mentioning them by name, we'd prefer that you did not out of fairness to our sponsors.
