Hit the Rockland show last week and I can honestly say this will be my last time.
This show went from 50/50 fishing and hunting to 20/20 hunting and fishing and 60% crap. It turned into a flea market with everyone selling there get rich quick item, socks, pickels, ect.

Mabey it's just me
There's a Bass Pro/Outdoor World near my daughter's college in Pa. Figured I'd kill some time while the girls went shopping. Place was HUGE and filled with crap. Thought I was in JC Penny's at times. They had this totally anemic rod section in a tiny space. Didn't even have most of the brands on the website, mostly their store brand.

Stop by to meet and greet Capt. Fred Gamboa at the Shimano booth. While you're there, if you're a canyon fisherman and have a boat, check out the Shimano deep drop electric reel. Try to make it to their seminar about deep dropping for swords and big eyes. If you can't find a reel at the Shimano booth that suits your needs and your wallet, it doesn't exist. Narrow your search before you go because they have it all and it might be overwhelming if you are going there just to see what's out there.

Stop by and say "hi" to Captain Nick Cicero at the Folsom/Tsunami booth and check out his new fly-weight jigging rod and reel combination. It has unbelievable strength and flexibility. Check his line of reasonably priced rods including the surf rods and jigging rods. Ask him about his "big eye" reel and his tilefishing setups.

Go to the show prepared to buy something. You can see everything and get your hands on it too. Look, compare and decide what you want. The dealers will have what you want and in some cases there are show specials to go with your buy. If you put off buying until you get to a store in a few months, you'll have to go over the whole routine all over again. Turn the handles. Bend the rods. Decide what feels right for what you want it for. That's the purpose of this show. You'll never find this amount of tackle in any one store so look for it here and open your wallet.

Glad I hit the show yesterday.... good crowd but able to walk right up and talk/buy from any booth..... today will probably be packed!!! Picked up a bunch of 9" shads for my mo-jo rigs, along with some castable mo-jo's to try out this year. Still a good show keeping the flea market stuff out of there like other shows have become. And YES Steve, Crab Cakes and Pickles are there!!
