Thanks man. I started messing around with them a few years ago, and once I realized I could drive 5 minutes from my house and catch 10-20 pound fish that sometimes peel 70 yards of line off, I got hooked. I have no idea why more people don't fish for them. They are a total blast.

Got to love those Carp and they can thrive practically anywhere. We had a pond in our area growing up... We called it a pond but it was more like a drainage ditch and it was practically polluted with them. A lot of fun to catch and like Mark said even better they were so close by... Come home from school, mix up some flour, water and honey, cast out your pole, reel in the slack. lean it on a stick and wait for the twitch.

One year up in the 1000 Islands in the early spring we were fishing one of our favorite Pike bays and happened upon their spauning grounds. We were casting around for the Pike in the reeds and all of a sudden we see the tops of the reeds near the shoreline moving. At first we thought maybe a Muskrat or something.
We go in closer to check it out and see all these HUGE 20 lb plus carp doing their business. Saw this once up on Spruce Run too.

Carp are a blast...Spruce is loaded with them...but I'm usually so friggin' amped up and focused on casting for "anything" that I never take the time to target them. Gotta hit that lake sometime with nothing but Carp Bait and a couple rods to force myself to do it...there's some submarines in there for sure.

First Carp experience was when my son was about 7...we were fishing the canal at Duke Island Park for sunnies...real tiny ones with corn...catching about 1 a minute. Then I think he is snagged because the little rod bends in half when he sets the hook.....few minutes later about a 3 lb carp comes to the surface. Not big for a carp but when you're 7 and have been catching 2 oz sunnies and that thing comes out of the water...it was like he caught a Blue Marlin.....Man there aint nothing better. He was talking about that fish for a month.

Cheers to you first open water catch of 2014!

Nice fish my friend! Looks healthy, Old Man Winter was kind to that Carp!

I myself, took a few casts into the mighty PR...didn't get a thing, but boy is it nice to fire some jigs and jerkbaits out there!

Eddie we all need therapy, don't feel bad...My head feels like an unsafe neighborhood, and I don't want to go in there alone

Go...NJFishing
