Just to satisfy my curiosity.......we're these pics taken with an IPhone or another camera? They were well-framed and composed. I'm sure there was some editing involved, but that's how it should be done. Great focus as well!

Congrats on the catch as well as the great pictures. I guess that goes out to both you and the photographer. Was that JD?

Also.....I forwarded a link to the page to the editor of the Digest for consideration. Well done.

Yes JD took the pictures of the fish I took the pictures of the backgrounds, its with a digital camera, nothing fancy just 21 something megapixel point and shoot, nikon i think? not even sure off the top of my head. The backgrounds don't match the fish though just to be clear; i had a lot of free time stuck indoors and was playing with the photo editing. I can send you the originals, what's your email.

I just sent you a PM. I couldn't help but notice the gulls in the background in the first picture. Were they targeting baitfish or were they just there? I've never seen birds diving on bait in any of my freshwater fishing but I think it would be so cool to actually be there when it happens.

The lakes with alewife populations sometimes experience blitzes like you would see in the salt. I've seen it on spruce run and Hopatcong as well as some others. Hybrids and other species will push herring to the surface. Seagulls dive bomb and pick off what they can.

Those gulls were just flying but like jigman said I've also seen blitzes with birds diving and slammed hybrid stripers out of the anarchy
