What works for me is this, I do an improved Albright, with loose coils, so when I wrap the line back it weaves into the loose coils. The key is not to pull the knot tight before you cinch it up. In other words, tighten the coils up, then put the pressure on the ends. You have to see how many reverse coils back to the loop will work for your line diameter. For thin Fireline, I use the same amount.

Try that pulling the wraps of braid before the whole shooting match. It works for me.

Reverse Albright works just fine I've taken 100's of tuna & other species using this connection , it takes all of 15 seconds to complete !! However if this angler doesn't understand knots then he should get some advice from someone who does like was suggested .

Not sure I understand..... So you cinch the braid coils first then the mono and the braid together?

^^this. the reverse albright works just fine. i've found over the years, the fancier knots or the "knots of the moment" are usually more complicated than needed to do the job, and may not hold as well as the tried and true... you can also finish the reverse albright with a lock knot if you want.

FG or PR knot! but you gotta get the bobbin in order to do it right. Capt Lou's suggestion is a good one too.

Albright is the best, Brian at fisherman supply taught me years ago, 80lb braid to 80 mono. Fought 3 bigeyes last year in a row 150 to 191lb. Knot holds up perfect.

Capt Lou knows his stuff. He has caught more big tuna then most of us will see in our lifetime. He is old and wise for a reason as he has not just surfed the internet to find and answer he has lived it. Back then they did not even have the internet they wrote things down on stone tablets.

I have been using the FG knot as mentioned for the past 2 years. More complicated but it is the thinnest connection i have found with no tag ends to get caught in guides or cut your fingers when line coming off your reel.

Once you get the hang off it it only takes a few minutes. If tied right it is bullet proof as the tighter it gets the stronger it gets as it will not slip. ( Chinese finger trap theory). Just like any knot if not tied correctly say good buy to any decent sized fish that will always find the weakest point of your tackle mostly due to angler error.

PR Bobbin Knot.
once you get used to tying them, only takes a minute.
and it puts ALL the other knots listed to shame.

^^^^^X2 just tie it perfectly and DO EVERY STEP--especially cinching down the braid--I use this for all my braid backing to top shots...then I use 1 drop of crazy glue on it....

Varivas knot, I'm probably one of the few ppl I know who uses it but I will tell you it is just as strong as the other knots mentioned and far less work. I use it for inshore and offshore and I find it impossible to break free when i'm stuck in the bottom. Unless I'm using less than 40lb test it is a b!tch to break free. its not as seemless as the other knots but pinch the mono tag end with pliers or burn and it goes through the guides no problem.
