From northjersey.com article:
State Police said their marine unit patrols the lake from time to time, but not continually. Some commenters questioned why the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office no longer patrols that lake, as it did several years ago.
Bill Maer, a spokesman for Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik, said the department had to give up patrols on the lake “at least five years ago” because of increasing costs of training, equipment and maintenance.
“And even when we did patrol, it was not on a full-time basis. We patrolled when we could,” Maer said. “When the detail was in operation, the department was larger, and had a budget that could accommodate that sort of detail.”
