If you plot a 70' party boat on a map of Raritan Bay, 100 of them would still be infinitesimal to the total area.

There are lots and lots of square miles of flats for those fluke and there just are not the numbers that there used to be.

You can thank the commercial fishery for that.

You can blame it on whatever you would like, water temps and the like, but bottom line is the fluke fishery sucks. Pick some fish here and pick some fish there, but for the most part the fishery is far from good. I have no idea how the Fishing Industry is going to survive. It`s scary.

Some things we had in nj area we haven't had previous years. Massive beach replenishment project stirring up water. How many clean water days have you seen. Fluke don't see your bait and follow from distance. Then you had lack of bait in area up north they had acres of sandeel etc. North of new jersey had some great fluke fishing. Drift conditions were either non existent or flying. Then what if any did seismic blasting off our coast did the fluke migrate away from that. I don't buy size limit stuff. It just was an off year due to maybe some of the above factors.
