Really?? But they were biting non stop before! I mean every 10-15 minutes I had to grab my pole. What did you use for bait?

I caught a 12.5 pounder last year up in Ontario and let me tell you if fought HARD. The guide soon after beat it to death in the boat with an anchor - lot of blood involved. Pretty gruesome, but apparently they're a predatory fish and kill off large amounts of bass and even pike. The game wardens up there tell everyone to kill them if they are caught. A really cool fish though, and one of the best freshwater fighters.[IMG][/IMG]

Nice fish! Its a shame that the guide killed it. I would doubt any game wardens would recommend killing them as they are a native species and definitely coexist with bass and pike throughout their range. I sincerely doubt they would have any effect on the bass/pike populations.

That's what we were told, however maybe it was more of a personal vendetta our guide had with the fish

Here is one I got last year at Waywayanda. I was using a frog in the pads and
he just smashed it thought I had a 10lb bass the way it fought. Very aggressive fish.

Which lake was that? Are they abundant there?

Waywayanda State Park. There is supposed to a lot of them in there but
that was the only one I have caught. I am targeting bass though. I do know
other people who have caught them.
