the mackerel being jigged are chub aka thimbleeye mackerel not boston or (aka) atlantic mackerel..

chub mackerel should be around during the summer months

Personally I just think everything is basically a month behind this year - for whatever reason whether it be the cold winter, run off, or poor weather since the winter..

I agree with Capt. Typically the spearing are larger for this time of year ,right now they are still pretty small. In previous years I would be netting them for fluke tourney's , they are just getting to "keepable " size now. We are just running behind previous years. Should run fluke well in to Sept!
