Washington Valley is an ok spot, but it gets really weedy really fast. The spots that are fishable from shore typically get pounded by the bucket brigade, but if you walk all the way around to the back of the reservoir near chimney rock rd you'll do fine. I normally do well with a frog skipping it along the banks.

I sometimes go down to the Raritan River in the Bedminster area. I've only ever caught Rainbows there, never any other kinds. Where else would be a good place to fish along the Raritan River and where?

if you park in the boat launch/fishing parking area there are no fees, you just need to display a copy of your fishing license on your dashboard. you can access the main reservoir here and between labor day and memorial day, also the recreation lake.

between memorial day and labor day, those gates on the dam are closed, so if you want to fish the rec lake, then you have to go in the main entrance for the "round valley recreation area" (the entrance for swimming/bbq/launching boats to camp) and pay the fee.
