![]() Sorry folks I just saw this. Looks like I missed some interesting posts and I'm glad I did!!!
The facts are as follows - all of this fishing that we do in NC is done when the commercial bluefin season is closed. It closed February 15 and as such none of these fish are allowed to be sold. And in case you think there is any funny business going on down there by any of the boats, the fine folks from NMFS enforecment are at the docks almost everyday to make sure every boat down there stays in compliance. And I for one love to see NMFS at the docks - in fact they meet us at the docks after almost every canyon trip to collect data for their survey and we actually help them out by giving them our schedule so they know exactly when to meet us at the dock. Since we started fishing down there on Febrary 25 we were allowed to keep one bluefin under 73" per day and each one of those fish are cut up at the dock and the charter takes home the fish. We were also allowed to keep one "trophy" bluefin over 73" per year per boat and that fish too is not allowed to be sold and is cut up at the dock and the charter takes home every last piece. Fact is on the Canyon Runner no matter whether the season is open or closed we don't sell any fish caught on a charter. It's stated in big bold letters in our charter agreement that is sent when soemone books a trip. Whether it's a 900 pound bluefin or a five bagger of 200 pound big-eyes - all the fish are cut up at the dock and the charter takes it all home (occasionally they leave a few pounds for us but we never even ask - only take it if offered - I usually don't get any myself the whole season). But even prior to that - when offshore before we start fishing if the charter can't guarantee that it will be able to eat everything we are catching we let the fish go. In fact, 2 out of the last 3 years we released more yellowfin then we killed as most charters don't want to kill everything we catch and since we don't allow sales of fish we get to release a ton of fish each year - many with tags in them. Hope this clears up everything.

![]() Capt Adam,
You don't owe anyone like the person who started the BS on this post an explanation because you don't get the great reputation you guys have without a reason. It's just really a shame that if someone has a question about how a particular party or charter boat runs their business they have to ask on a web site rather than calling the owner/operator of the boat and asking them directly. You have no need to respond or defend yourself to someone like that. Keep posting the great pictures. |

![]() Thanks guys - I must have missed something because the question asked about selling fish is always asked - that's why I put the answer in our charter agreement.
But thanks a lot for the support! Joe - let's hope the weather holds - we had a nice stretch this week so hopefully it carries over.

Just curious, why would you say its not ok to ask a question on this website? If one person has a question I'm sure many more have the same question. I didn't see any of the deleted posts and don't see anything wrong with a person asking what the charter boats policy is on the Giants. Am I missing something????? |
