Go with these, use a strike indicator, cast upstream, mend in line as it comes to you, idea is to have fly at same speed as water current, when your strike indicator stops, or goes upstream set the hook lightly, it isn't like leaning back on a blaskfish. you don't have to cast far, also learn roll cast, very hepful when lots of trees and brush around. i still loose lots of flies to those suckers. check you tube on how to roll cast

nymphs
gold ribbed hares ear
copper john
pheasant tail nymph
prince nymph

streamers
white marabou
wolly bugger
those white marabou have awsome action, i catch lots of fish on these, i tie quite a few, and always have them on me

wet flies
quill gordon

1st thing, get some casting videos and set up some hoola hoops in the yard, practice, practice. you dont want to watch fish disapear while you spook em ripping line around. Flys: stone flys stone flys stone flys, various size, mosquito pattern, wooley booger, and a bead head for the fresh stockies, (fresh stockies dont know flys from cheese) so a few bright shiny ones will get you started.

Chris did not get home till after I went to bed so I did not get to see the pole but he called me twice to tell me it is a nice set up and how nice of a guy BottomBouncer was

Thank you for such a wonderful offer and for going out of your way to meet up with him to hand it off.

It was an awesome effort on your part and is appreciated

Chris is a really nice kid who I was happy to hook up with that setup...we met up at Ramsey Outdoors and I went over fly selection...tippets...indicators...and presentations for a variety of situations...Chris told me he first wanted to try fly fishing in lakes for trout and bass so I hooked him up with a wolly bugger and streamer and explained how to fish them...we looked at poppers for bass and panfish that he could use to catch fish right away this summer...I also went over how to nymph in a stream and gave him a nymph/midge tandom that's is ready to fish minus an indicator...He seemed very excited in general and it made me happy to get someone into one of my passions...

Get a few soft hackle hares ears, you can fish the just like bait letting them drift down stream and letting them rise like an emerger, they can also be stripped like a streamer. I toaught both of my boys on them and were successful. Fly Fishing is not rocket science, but there is a learning curve. Once the fish figure out the difference between a fish pellet an an insect you will outfish the bait guys big time.
