If someone else can come up with a logical reason of why they would force the recreational angler to harvest all females while ignoring the science and research, then I am all ears! |

![]() Not that it's perfect but I think NJ for one has done a good job trying to get our Fluke size regulations down over time recognizing the issue of taking large females out of the population. For the first time ever there are slot options on the table which NJ fought for. Also remember it was not that log ago when we choose to go out of compliance when the feds were trying to force 19 inch regulations on us and we got that done.
Seem like a lot of folks take issue with the people involved on managing our fisheries at a state level and their frustration is misplaced on them. It's the feds that set regulations and the states are stuck with whatever is handed down by the feds. I know for a fact the NJ DEP staff and several members of the council worked really hard behind the scenes to get the feds to approve our current options to include a slot this year. Is it perfect, no but it certainly is a step in the right direction and it would not have happened without them.
