I've always added a little meat to the Gulp!, it seems that they hang on to it a little longer. Usually it's a single squid strip, I don't like to overload the hook.

I've had the opposite experience: big globs of meat out in the ocean seems to get bit by bigger fish, in the bay it's either/or, gulp or bait.

Fished a tournament years ago my friend was tipping his 3oz jigs with gulp grub and whole squid...it looked terrible, but was catching 5lbers left and right.
