Agree with releasing big fish to spread genetics but muskies are not really reproducing in NJ due to unfavorable environment. Or at least this is what I've read.

Their eggs most likely don't hatch naturally, but the state nets fish from Greenwood and milks them for their eggs. And since they set their traps in the South End where you caught your fish, it's genetics could have very easily been passed on.

Not too many people keep muskies for food or at least this is what I believe. I don't even like pickerel that much and they taste good. Catch and release generates higher than you think mortality as well (thus dead muskies found floating in Greenwood). One fish kept (considering potential for record) will not make a major difference in a recruitment program. Dont be so critical of me keeping a fish, I pay taxes and license fees like all of us to make this program successful.
