Guys in the know, with time, money, gear, boats and knowledge typically go elsewhere, such as Erie, Ontario, Finger Lakes, L George,or one of the other large lakes in NY.. Most of the Adirondack waters are stained, not easy to fish unless you have local knowledge, the fish are smaller, less numerous, and harder to catch. When I lived in Forked River, I fished a lot of tannin stained water.. Never liked it much.. Fish were smaller for the most part, less diversity in species, never saw the swarms of minnows I saw in clear lakes with weeds and rocks... A lot of the small Adirondack lakes always reminded me of the small Pine Barrens lakes I used to fish.. There are probably some really good productive lakes in the Adirondacks, but I dunno, I was never all that impressed compared to the lakes in central NY state...

Sitting by the wood stove now. But been here for 2 days I’ve been fishing on no less than 10inches. Beautiful rental very secluded 4 wheel drive accessible only I’d say. Lake is small and private. Even the locals I met said they hadn’t heard much. Some people who I met that live here shared more. My family and I fished yesterday with NOTHING in 7 hours! Over 12 tip ups on all the structure I could find. Today, few pickerel one nicer one and my sons first small mouth and a first small mouth thru the ice I’ve seen. Would love to come back in the summer. I did learn there are Pike and Browns.
