Default White catfish

Went fishing in 46 degree Carnegie Lake this evening in the rain during a 40 knot nor’easter gale with a flood warning. 4 fishermen from NY left when I arrived. Only one other fisherman was there for a short time. I caught and released 2 white perch, 2 black crappies to 10”, a yellow perch and a 15” white catfish. Caught nothing with worms 🪱 on 12 lb test line again. Caught a white perch and catfish with Walmart red worm halves on 4 lb test line. Landed 4 fish on a black 1/32 oz leadhead jig and and 1” blue flake twister tail on 2 lb test line.

I would love to see what would happen if that lake you fish was off limits to all fishing for 3-4 years,, Not a single fisherman, just the lake left alone to rest and for the fish to grow. I would bet that when reopened, it would have incredible fishing for nice size fish for maybe a half year, possibly a year. Then history would repeat.

Seems very productive, lovely variety of species, just hit way too hard, and the fish just can't grow to size.. As soon as they approach legal size,-gone!.. Several small lakes around here are pretty similar.. Lots of production, good habitat, WAY too many fishermen.. Mostly small fish, not the lake's fault., just too much pressure.. I don't know the answer, but its a very common problem in todays world... bob

Close it? Then where would he fish for dinks? Everyone would miss his daily dinkage reports.

Yea, Carnegie 46 degrees. Central NJ has tons of pressure, can’t change that. Keep posting, I’ll keep reading. Fishing 5-6 days out of 7, sweet livin.
