Ice fishing PSA
PSA #1. The beach at Budd Lake is all open water. Looks like they have some dock bubblers there so I’m not sure it’s ever going to freeze. There are other options like along Rt 46 and over by the castle but way less convenient
PSA #2. If you have a hand auger, don’t bother trying to sharpen the blades unless you really know what you’re doing. Before I put my stuff away last year I decided to sharpen the blades with some fine grit sandpaper because they were getting a little dull…Found out the hard way that was a bad idea and I am now rocking brand new blades |

Re: Ice fishing PSA
PSA#3 Dont use your auger anywhere near a lake beach. It's a recipe for disaster and will result in a quickly dulled blade.
Lol

Re: Ice fishing PSA
Ha. It has been close to 10 years with no maintenance, I think it was time for new set anyway

Re: Ice fishing PSA
Had a friend who decided to sharpen the blades sitting on the ice. Well the ice went red all around us, needless to say the day ended as we went to the hospital.

Re: Ice fishing PSA
I replaced the head on my 8" nils last year. Had to wear welding gloves or risk losing fingers. The whole cutting head comes off vs just the blades. The welding gloves took a beating...
