Default NJ Fall Trout

Hit the river this past Thursday and Friday looking for some of the fall stocked trout. Surprised that in 2 full days of fishing I only saw 3 other fishermen.

Weather was good, wind made it a little tough to fly fish so I switched to my spin gear, stream flows were good, water temp ranged between 50-52 degrees.

Managed to land a total of 9 trout (8 rainbows from 13" to 16" and 1 15" brown). All trout released for others to enjoy!

Here are few photos of some of the trout.

Nice brown mixed in with good rainbows. What lures were they hitting?

I use it every time I go out. I lace it into my wading boot. I actually broke it on Friday afternoon when my boot slipped off a rock into another. When I got out of the river I went to check it and found the glass had cracked.

Time to get another.

The brown was caught on a black woolly bugger fly. The rainbows were caught on either a Rapala Count Down lure or a TroutA-Control Ranger.

I started following TroutA-Control on Instagram and liked the lures. Check them out, the come with 2 single hooks instead of treble hooks which is how I modify my Rapalas to so it saves me the work.

Looks like a great fall day on the water! That brown has a familiar look to him, and that last 'bow looks as though she may be a spring holdover. She also has a spawned-out look to her belly in the pic.

Thumbs up Re: NJ Fall Trout

Really nice trout ! I like the fact many fishermen are moving away from treble hooks that C&R trout. I also started using a small landing net, don't keep any but are great for taking photos.
