Re: Thurs nite/Friday morning midnight special...A tale of the unexpected
Thanks guys. It was an absurd nite that nite. I'm still in disbelief. My fondness for the river, in that moment, grew exponentially.
All I know is this: you can't catch fish from your couch, never stop casting and unexpected things will occur the more time you spend on the water. See you out there and catch em up!

Got my pb walleye pb smallie and now my pb tiger outta there. Then again, I've only caught 2 tigers in my life. Size wise, yes. Prob my biggest fish outta there aside from some carp.

Re: Thurs nite/Friday morning midnight special...A tale of the unexpected
The "books" will say esox don't feed in the dark.. they are wrong.. Up here in the Susquehanna River, Tiger Muskies will hit at night, in the pitch dark... Some are caught every year by night time Walleye fishermen.
Also , years ago i stood on the bank of the river at 4 am in the dark and watched in the dim glow of a street light on the bank as muskies ate THREE mammals of some kind as they swam across the river in a half hour period.. They looked to be rat or muskrat size and were crossing the river at regular intervals.. Each time you would see the V wake as the animal swam across the river, and then there would be a splash that sounded like a concrete block being dropped in the river, and a swirl the size of a pickup truck,- no more wake, no more swimming critter.. Up until that night i was under the impression that Muskies/pike/Tigers didn't eat at night as all the experts wrote.. They were incorrect as we now know.. I have never caught one at night personally, but there are a few guys that always fish for them in the dark around here... bob |
