Shad Avengers!

NJFishing.com assemble!...to help me catch my first shad! haha thanks to every one that helped mike, bunkerdunker, njsquatch, eddie, tom, and also the unknown guy who gave me his spot when he left for the day! It took me three trips but i finally got my first shad.

After watching another angler catch a decent amount of them as i fished near him catching nothing he was leaving for the day and gave me some tips and told me how he was getting them. So i stepped into his spot and failed some more for another 30 minutes or so. Then i realized i was working too hard for them...I started barely moving the lure, letting it sit at the bottom of the hole slightly twitching it in the current.

It was a subtle hit but a real nice fight and i had my first shad ever, and a pretty respectable one i think at 22" (failed selfie with the tail cut off but oh well haha)



I went on, once i figured it out, to catch 6 total and missing a bunch of hits but not losing any once hooked during fighting. The first one i got was my biggest but i got another pic of a 20.5" one that another angler took.

Congrats bud, nothing like fighting them on the light tackle. You'll be be back next year I'm sure of it. It's very addicting.

Nice job, glad to see you finally got one. Its tricky fishing for them. Sometimes they want the dart to be stationary, other times if you work it back to you slowly jigging it that's what they want. There are usually fish there so if they aren't hitting don't be afraid to vary your presentation.

Congrats Chris! Shad are such fun. Went 6 for 6 yesterday north of the gap. Green/ chartreuse were the colors. Not much fight in the ones we caught and a lot of spawning activity on the surface. They won't be around much longer!

It was fun, unfortunately I may not get back to them before they're gone this year but it will def be something I hit up every year!

Way 2 get out there and conquer more fish dude, Congratz!! Great job puttin in time to target these diff fish too, I remember you said you're going for the elite or masters. Def not farfetched if you keep it up. Great job bro!

Actually those have been conquered already haha. 4 perch, 1 sunfish, 2 crappie, 2 bullhead cats, and 1 winter flounder. 5 sa species and 10 total sa fish. Catching my first shad was on my goal list along with first tiger Muskie and first bowfin.

I can't say enough about the team here on njf, without you guys my chances of succes for new endeavors would be much slimmer for sure. I will be targeting as many more big fish I can get my hands on! Nj multi species fishing! Go get em guys!
